How to lose faith in yourself and confuse your market – the conclusion

I’ve shared the reasons why people lose faith in themselves by not showing up fully, or making other mistakes that only serve to confuse the people who could be their perfect clients.  In this last entry I want you to see what comes up for you.  Do you feel any resistance as you read this? That may show you that there’s a little something there that needs to be looked at!
We don’t know exactly who our perfect fit clients are, so we work with people who don’t really get what we do. In an age of needing to pay the bills and getting money in the door, it’s very easy just to take whatever comes your way or whoever will pay for your services. But here again, you risk not being your most clear and authentic self when you try to be all things to all people. One of the foundational pieces to having a business that will make you happy is in getting very clear about exactly who your ideal client is. The clearer you can be, the more your marketing works. It’s like a dog whistle…imperceptible to the human ear, but dogs can hear it. Your bold message, when infused with your unique brilliance, is like the dog whistle to your perfect market.

How do you find this? Again, go back into the database of your clients and start identifying characteristics of people you delighted to serve. You may find industries that you resonate more with, or specific characteristics you enjoy. I really liken this part of the process to dating. You wouldn’t just say, “I’d take any man that’s between 5’5” and 6’2”. That would be crazy!!! And if house hunting, you would never utter, “Just give me any house in South Scottsdale, we just need 4 bedrooms.” No, when you picked your home and your romantic partner, you had specific ideas about what would or wouldn’t work. It’s the same with your clients, because nothing will burn you out faster than trying to serve people who aren’t resonant with your values and who don’t appreciate you. What does this take? First- doing the work to discover this, and second – having the courage to say no from time to time.

So there ya go. Not only did I ‘come out of the closet’ just a bit more, I hope that I have inspired you to really dig in and own what makes you most amazing. I’m here to help!

I hope you enjoyed the article! I’d love you to leave a comment on my blog
