Are You Running Away From Money? – The Acceptance
Posted in Business Strategy, Charging for your services on 05/19/2010 08:37 am by Therese SkellyIn my last post, I shared a conversation I overheard that I’m sure you’ve either heard for yourself or even participated in yourself. I’ve included it again to jog your memory and add some context.
Sally: “Please let me give you some money.”
Donna: “No, I couldn’t possibly take that from you.”
Sally: “It’s really important that you let me pay you.”
Donna (who is now literally backing away) “No! I WON”T TAKE YOUR MONEY.”
Sally: “You don’t understand that by refusing to take this money, you are blocking my flow of good as well.” (Sally is pretty spiritually connected so get’s this concept)
Donna: “NO. Put your money back, I’m not taking it.”
With this exchange in mind, let’s look at some places you may be stopping the flow of money. See if you can spot yourself in any of these actions -
- Rejecting compliments – (“Oh, its old….or “I got it on SALE”)
- Not allowing others to buy meals, coffee, etc.
- Always having to out-give people
- Not spending money on what you love but scrimping all the time
- Giving your services away
- Under charging for what you are worth
The bottom line about all the above examples is that there is an issue with RECEIVING.
Money is something you receive, so please understand that you can’t say no to the friend who wants to treat you to Steak dinner, and then wonder why you aren’t attracting higher paying clients.
If you want to really open the flow in your life, first find all the areas where you are blocking it.
We all have scripts from our childhood or life experiences that determine how much we allow ourselves to receive.
Women are especially vulnerable to this, but men can also hide out in the ‘caretaker’ or superman mode and always being in the giver role.
I’d encourage you to write a list of all the places where you say no to things flowing in your life. Next, write a list of new beliefs you’d like to have in place. We have to start reprogramming your “money mind” so saying things like this can create a new experience for you:
- I am open to receiving even more wealth in my life now
- I am a good steward of my money
- Money flows easily to me now
- I use money for the highest good of myself and others
- I give myself permission to receive in bigger and bigger ways
- It’s easy for me to attract money
There’s a few to get you started. Now, the next time someone offers to buy you that double mocha latte at Starbucks, what are you gonna say? ?
If you want to do more in this area, a couple of great books I recommend are Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker and The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity by Edwene Gaines.
Blessings,
Therese
